Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about Redactt

Redactt supports a wide range of file formats:

  • PDF Files: .pdf
  • Word Documents: .doc, .docx, .odt, .rtf
  • Text Files: .txt, .md, .log, .csv, .json, .xml
  • Images: .jpg, .jpeg, .png, .gif, .bmp, .tiff (with OCR support for text detection)

All files are processed in memory with zero persistence - your documents are never stored on our servers.

Zero persistence means that your files and sensitive data are never stored on our servers. All processing happens in memory (RAM) and files are immediately deleted after processing. We only store minimal metadata like case IDs and aggregate counts - never file content, filenames, or redaction details.

This ensures maximum security and privacy for your sensitive documents.

When you complete a case, you'll receive a ZIP file containing your redacted documents and a reopen_case_file.json file. This JSON file contains your case settings (keywords, options) but no file content.

To reopen a case (available for 30-day and monthly plans only), simply upload the reopen_case_file.json file. You can then:

  • Upload the same files again with updated keywords
  • Upload completely new files using the same redaction settings
  • Modify your redaction terms before reprocessing

7-day plan users can create new cases with different keywords or files, but cannot reopen existing cases.

When your 7-day or 30-day paid plan expires, your account automatically rolls into the Free plan. You'll immediately have access to:

  • 5 cases per month
  • 5 redaction terms per case
  • 10 MB maximum file size

Your case count resets, and you can continue using Redactt with the free tier limits. You can upgrade again at any time.

Yes! You can cancel your monthly subscription at any time through the Stripe Customer Portal. There are no contracts or cancellation fees.

After cancellation, you'll continue to have access until the end of your current billing period, then your account will automatically convert to the Free plan.

File size limits help ensure fast processing and prevent server overload. The limits are:

  • Free Plan: 10 MB per file
  • 7-Day Plan: 25 MB per file
  • 30-Day & Monthly Plans: 50 MB per file

All plans have a 100 MB total limit per batch and a maximum of 10 files per case. These limits help maintain processing speed and system stability for all users.

Case limits vary by plan:

  • Free Plan: 5 cases per month (resets on the 1st of each month)
  • 7-Day Plan: 25 cases total during your 7-day subscription period
  • 30-Day Plan: Unlimited cases during your 30-day subscription period
  • Monthly Plan: Unlimited cases (recurring monthly subscription)

A "case" is one submission, regardless of how many files you include in that submission.

Redactt is designed with security and privacy as top priorities:

  • Zero Persistence: Files are processed in memory and never written to disk
  • No Storage: We don't store file content, filenames, or redaction details
  • Minimal Metadata: We only store aggregate counts and case IDs
  • Immediate Deletion: All temporary files are deleted immediately after processing
  • Secure Processing: All processing happens server-side in isolated memory

Your sensitive documents are processed and returned to you - they never remain on our servers.
